Inspired by the ancient Greek myth of the Minoan Labyrinth, the album draws the listener into an allegorical journey through the dark twists and treacherous trails of the Labyrinth.
In those tenebrous depths the mythological characters are reborn. Arrogant, double-crossing Theseus uses any means to his purpose and returns triumphant to be crowned king, in the place of his father who plunged to his watery death. Gullible, love-struck Ariadne provides the clew hoping to be delivered from her immured life and sails for Athens on her lover’s ship, only to be marooned and left to die on a desert island. Is the biformed Minotaur an abomination feasting on young flesh or is he presented as such to instill crippling fear to the enemies of the Minoan kingdom? Perhaps his bull nature is content feeding off the lichen that grows in the murky corridors of his convoluted prison. War is mankind’s pinnacle of monstrosity and like the ferocious battle unfolding in the labyrinthal depths, it does not produce heroes but results in massacre and disgrace.
The mythological Labyrinth becomes an allegory for the confusing pathways modern societies force us to navigate and the need to constantly push the boundaries of the constructed fable to reveal what’s genuine and true. In these chaotic times the search for a meaningful path is a complex struggle.
