Gong return with Bright Spirit, the third chapter in their ongoing Ascension trilogy, following The Universe Also Collapses and Unending Ascending. Recorded with long-time collaborator Frank Byng in his South London studio, the album finds the group leaning fully into their most open and exploratory instincts.

Dreams sit at the heart of Bright Spirit — not only as imagery, but as a way of thinking. Psychedelia, love and the fragile boundary between inner and outer worlds shape music that feels fluid, searching and quietly expansive. Opener ‘Dream Of Mine’ sets the tone, unfolding like a transmission from somewhere just out of reach, its evolving harmonies and angular turns suggesting a long-awaited moment of arrival. Frontman Kavus Torabi describes it as a point everything has been moving towards.

Elsewhere, Bright Spirit reveals a gentler side. ‘Fragrance Of Paradise’ stands as Torabi’s first love song, tender yet unmistakably Gong, while ‘The Wonderment’ drifts into a deeply meditative space, balancing inward reflection with outward exploration. Taken together, the album forms a vivid, kaleidoscopic whole — a further step along Gong’s ever-unfolding path.
