Her band, the ‘friends’, are an orchestral project which wrap these original compositions and folk covers in a quietly experimental jazz-pop. Her EP ‘a boy called ear’, released in 2024 by the American indie label, Team Love, marked the start of an ethereal engagement with melancholy and loss.
Her work blends the essence of the deep past, with something significantly more contemporary by way of rolling loops, vocal fx, and untraditional harmonies between multiple voices and instruments.
Still, with all these elements, a scrappy scarcity runs through the songs.
Influences for “Nights on the Folkway”, Demi’s debut full length album, include the likes of Joni Mitchell, Cat Power, Judee Sill and Nick Drake.
