M83 returns with A Necessary Escape, a cinematic new soundtrack composed for the documentary Dakar: Race Against The Desert. This marks the fourth film score from Anthony Gonzalez, created alongside long-time collaborators Joe Berry and Clément Libes. Recorded between France and the US, the music captures the intensity, drama, and beauty of the world’s most demanding off-road race.

Directed by French actor and filmmaker Jalil Lespert, the film follows motorsport icons like Sébastien Loeb, Nasser Al-Attiyah, Carlos Sainz and Stéphane Peterhansel, as well as emerging talent Mason Klein, across 9,000km of unforgiving desert. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access, it offers an immersive look into the Dakar Rally’s relentless physical and emotional challenges.

Gonzalez’s score blends M83’s signature emotional weight and widescreen synths with dynamic arrangements that mirror the race’s epic scale. Atmospheric and propulsive, A Necessary Escape stands as both a compelling soundtrack and a striking addition to M83’s wider discography.
