Aside from being a Detroit House producer, DJ and label owner, Mike Huckaby is also a massive jazz head. In the afterhours he produces Sun-Ra edits from a dancefloor perspective, using only a mixer and a reel to reel player. Now some of his finest edits are released on ‘The Mike Huckaby Reel To Reel Edits’ EP series, containing reworks of classic tracks from the Art Yard catalogue. Vol.1 contains a DJ-friendly version of one of the few Sun-Ra disco tracks around called ‘U.F.O.’ The flip contains a dancefloor orientated version of ‘Antique Blacks’. No sounds were added or drums were revised, bot edits use the original sounds, but are looped and layered to give them that Detroit dancefloor appeal. The 12” comes in a full colour jacket including a silkscreen-printed plastic insert designed by L.A. designer Stephen Serrato. Limited quantities will be made available so don’t miss out.
