Julia Holter presents Materia, a companion release to Something in the Room She Moves that revisits and reimagines ideas from its orbit. At its centre is ‘Materia’, a song that continued to evolve long after its original recording. Here it appears in two new forms: the dreamlike ‘Materia 2’, featuring drum machines, fretless bass, clarinet and vocals from Jessika Kenney, and ‘Materia 3’, a slowed-down reinterpretation that highlights the song’s intricate harmonies and emotional depth.

Across seven tracks, Holter moves between improvisation, experimental pop and intimate sketches. Highlights include expansive solo explorations built from layered synths, drum machines and manipulated vocals, alongside ‘My Twin’, a striking piece developed from an early demo.
